schedule for infant

Trying to create schedule for infant can be a daunting task. But it makes it easier on you if you can keep in a similar routine everyday. Before six months your babies schedule changes so much from eating, pooping, and then sleeping again to staying up for longer periods of time. Though you can try and keep them a schedule it is difficult. Especially if you have the same difficulties I did and your baby only sleeps for 30 minutes at a time during the day.

Father and daughter Napping

My daughter and husband taking an afternoon nap together.

However, at about 6 months they are a bit easier to get on a set schedule. Your six month old needs about 15 sleep to maintain the rapid physical and mental growth they are undergoing, which means at night they should be sleeping about 10 hours and then having 2-3 naps during the day. My infant has two naps and is usually really tired by bed time. He tends to sleep through the night pretty well most of the time.

Creating schedule for infant that works with your schedule can be difficult. So here is what i do everyday with me little one.

Here is my tentative schedule I try to keep my six month old on.

Infant Schedule

6:00 am Wake up, diaper change, breastfeed

6.30 am playtime, usually on a mat with his toys.

7:00 cuddles time (usually I play with him)

8:00 am Breakfast time (usually cereal mixed with breast milk)

8:30 am Exercise time

9:00 am more play time and diaper change

9:30 am breastfeed and then nap

10:30 am wake-up, breastfeed, Diaper change

11:00 am story time

11:30 am lunch time (usually pureed fruit)

12:00 pm playtime

12:30 pm work on crawling skills

1:00 pm Dance with baby

1:30 pm diaper change then walks outside if whether permits or show him things and tell your child the name of them.

2:00 pm nap

4:00 pm diaper change, breastfeed, and plays in jumper while I start dinner

4:30 pm sits in high chair or in a carrier on my back as I finish dinner and get some clean up done

5:30 or 6:00 pm Dinner (usually some veggies and some sort of fruit)

7:00 pm bath time

7:30 bedtime story, breastfeed, then bed

So that is how I spend the day with my baby. If you use formula you can switch breastfeed with formula feed. Taking the time to allow your little one to play on the floor is great to build the muscles needed to crawl and later walk. Creating a schedule for infant is both beneficial for you and your little one.

Taking time to show him what things are is great to help them learn to talk. Walks outside are a great thing especially if your child is fussy. With my first it was often the only way she would be happy. My daughter wanted me to carry her everywhere, so I took many walks with her, because my arms would get so tired. I tried the carrier and often used that, but eventually the extra weight can wear you down.

Wearing your child is a great way to carry them, but still have your hands free. The problem I face occasionally though is that my little on like to get down and move. He hates being confined for to long. I tried to give him as much freedom as I can safely do, but I do not like him to be out of my sight. This can be dangerous, especially when your little one begins to climb.

Hope this helps you get a schedule set for your infant. If you have any questions or tips, please leave a comment. Also don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter.
